PINC and Steel Cancer Rehabilitation
Activate Physiotherapy are credentialed to provide the PINC and STEEL Cancer Physiotherapy Rehabilitation programmes- PINC being designed for women recovering from cancer surgery or treatment and STEEL being the mens programme.
The program is delivered by Helen Nott and Kate Gordon who provide a full range of services designed to care, support and guide men through every stage of their treatment and recovery.
The STEEL programme provides individualized,prescribed rehabilitation to men diagnosed with cancer and needing re-strengthening.
It is suitable after any type of cancer surgery or treatment and accommodates all ages, fitness levels and mobility. Treatment can be varied and tailored to meet individual needs.Men’s rehabilitation needs are different to women’s. Regaining physical strength and stamina can really help men with the mental stuff as well!
Research shows that remaining physically active is a very important component in your recovery from cancer and the effects of its treatment. A large body of research exists showing the positive effects of exercise and physical activity in cancer survivors in terms of reducing side effects of the disease process, and improving a patient’s functional ability and quality of life, regardless of the stage of the cancer. There is also evidence that exercise may have an impact on survivorship rates and cancer recurrence.
Each session is designed to suit the needs of the patient on the specific day ensuring that a caring and safe environment is created.
A thorough assessment is done on the first session (approximately an hour)
Following sessions run for half an hour and funding is available through the PINC and STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Trust.
Helen also teaches NEXT Steps-a fully funded group exercise programme for women and men who have completed their main cancer treatment and want to take the next steps on the road to recovery. The program combines pilates,yoga and cardiovascular exercises for a workout that is specifically designed to help rebuild strength, flexibility and stamina.
